Research and Planning Reflection
What real media and audiences did you look at?
We looked at many different types of audiences especially teenagers because we believed that they were more likely to go and watch an action thriller film. We also tried to appeal more to a male target audience because are film included large amounts of action scenes which we thought would more appeal to males. We then decided to make our film a 15 because it included some violence which isn't suitable for young audiences.
How did they inform your thinking about your media production?
We listened to our target audience very closely because we wanted to make a film which our target audience want to see because it will help make our audience bigger because we would already have a fan base which want to see what we make. They also gave us some ideas of what our film should and shouldn't include which will help give us an idea of what the audiences what to see in our short film.
How did you record all that research?
We recorded all this research using different research methods like questionnaires and by looking at how well other action thriller films did. When using the questionnaire to get information from are audience we had some questions which where needed to of been answered to get the information which was needed, once we got are information from the results we added the total up to see what our audiences wanted our film to be about and or include. When researching other action thriller films we decided to see how well they did in the cinema and to see if we could include any of the story line or scenes into our film.
What primary research was undertaken?
We used questionnaires to undertake primary research because we fought it was a good and effective way to get results from our audience. We also decided to use this method because it had multiple choices to pick from which could of been better for us because it gave us more feedback which we could use to make our film ideas more developed.
What secondary research was undertaken?
We looked at how well past action thriller films did to get some idea of what we should include in our film to make it better and more applying to our target audience. This research method was good and effective for us because it gave us some more effective ideas which we could included into our film to make it more applying and engaging for our audience.
How did it inform the production?
Our research informed our production of our short film because it showed us what our audience wanted to see from our film. It also allowed us to see what parts of our film didn't work and which needed to be improved, also allowed us to see what successful and popular action thriller films had in them to make them a success.
What is the effectiveness of these kinds of research?
These kinds of research are effective because it allows us to improve some of the parts in our short film which didn't work very well in the overall story line of the film. This was also effective because it showed what our target audience wanted to see in our short film which gave us lots of different ideas.
What quantitative and qualitative analysis methods were employed?
The quantitative method was the questionnaire because it was easy and quick to read the results gathered from the questionnaire, also it is easy to compare to other data collected. The qualitative method was the film research because it is the exploratory research to gain an understanding of peoples opinions of why they like or dislike parts of the film.
How did the results from these inform the production?
This informed our production because it showed us what people did and didn't like about action thriller films. This helped us to compare our ideas from films which revolve around the film genre we have chosen. This also showed us what we need to improve to make our film a success for our target audience.
What is the effectiveness of these kinds of research?
It helps us to develop and improve our ideas which were needed to be improved because we wanted our short film to be the best it could be. This was also effective because the information was quick to gather which meant we could act on the information straight away.
How effectively were storyboards/scripts followed?
Our storyboard was effectively followed because it made it easier for us to follow what we planned to do and because it helped us to split our filming into sections which made it easier and faster to film and follow. The script was effectively followed because we wanted to follow a structure which would make it easier for us to follow and revise what was needed to say with out having to re-film scenes which would of made filming longer.
